A bipartisan group of eight senators have introduced a bill to end the secret interpretation of the law that allowed the NSA through the stamp FISA Court to say that the FISA Amendments Act I sweep essentially allowed all data on phone calls on everything.

The movement, which comes amid daily revelations about the extent to which the National Security Agency monitors the communications of Americans, require the Attorney General to declassify Court Monitoring important foreign audiences intelligence (IFCS). The senators say the bill would allow Americans to know the extent of the legal authority of the U.S. government claims spy under the Patriot Act and the Act on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance (FISA).

"Americans deserve to know the amount of information about their private communications The Government believes that is permitted to have under the law," said Senator Oregon Jeff Merkley, a Democrat who has been an advocate of congressional oversight of the monitoring programs. "There is plenty of room for debate without jeopardizing our sources or monitoring or switching to our enemies. We can not have a serious debate about how to enable the monitoring of communications of Americans endless secrecy legislation. " Bill Merkley spread, but co-sponsored by Senators Patrick Leahy, Dean Heller, Mark Begich, Al Franken, Jon Tester and Ron Wyden. Leahy, who is the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, is important, suggesting that this bill is not automatically dead in the water. In the fight FISA Amendments Act at the end of 2012, Leahy was one of the few Senators (with Merkley and Wyden) pushed to just do a straight reauthorization.
